Ten years ago today, Hurricane Katrina came ashore ravaging the Louisiana and Mississippi gulf coasts.  Shortly after landfall, the levees failed in New Orleans, flooding the City as well as the Parishes of St. Bernard and Plaquemines.

Over 1,800 individuals perished in the tragedy.  As the country holds commemoration services on Katrina’s tenth anniversary, one very sad fact troubles many, that being, 100 victims are still unidentified and their remains unclaimed by their family.   Fittingly, the remains of these unfortunate souls are interned en masse in crypts at the New Orleans Katrina Memorial.

The New Orleans Katrina Memorial serves as the final resting place of the remains of the unidentified and unclaimed victims of Hurricane Katrina.

TLC featured the principals of Heir Hunters International in the TV show, The Wealth Hunters. In it, Bunim/Murray Productions documented their search for the families of two of Katrina’s victims.

The Wealth Hunters can be found on the Heir Hunters International youtube channel, youtube.com/heirhunters.  In commemoration of Katrina’s tenth anniversary, it’s appropriate to honor the victims by linking the show to our blog.  In it, you will see that two families were eventually reunited with their relatives.
