Heir Hunters International Details the “Unclaimed Money” Postcard Solicitation & Reminds You of the Heir Hunting Golden Rule.

In a May 19, 2015, blog post and accompanying news story, CBS affiliate KKTV alerted its viewers to an unclaimed money offer involving a postcard solicitation.

In brief, a woman received a postcard informing her she had “unclaimed money.” The postcard neither identified the holder of the funds nor its amount.  In order to learn more about the “unclaimed property,” the sender requested she phone the number provided.

Not surprisingly, the woman dialed the number only to be told, quoting the KKTV blog:

“The person who answered the phone told [her] they needed her credit card number to cover some fees.” [Emphasis added.]

She went on explain:

“ ‘They told me that actually I had to pay to get all this money back,’ ” [she] said. “‘She even told me to try to borrow a credit card from one of my family members and I told her no.’ ”

Since the problem is so prevalent and never ending, it’s worth repeating the Gold Rule:
